Nell'ambito dei Té di Matematica, mercoledì 25 Marzo alle ore 16:00, Francesca Merola (Università Roma Tre) terrà un seminario dal titolo "Constructing Balance: An Introduction to Combinatorial Designs".
Abstract: Combinatorial design theory is concerned with arranging subsets of a finite set so that small configurations occur with uniform frequency. In a block design, every pair of points appears together in the same number of blocks, producing a balanced pattern of overlap. In this talk I will introduce the basic ideas of the theory of block designs with an emphasis on constructive methods, particularly those based on finite groups and difference techniques, touching on some of the problems that are studied in the field and mentioning some of the applications.
