The course aims to provide students with the ability to orient themselves within a new field of law that lies at the intersection of law, science and new technologies. In particular, the following topics will be analyzed: issues related to individual choices in the field of health law; developments in scientific research, genetics, assisted reproduction, neuroscience and the impact on the protection of human rights; the new frontiers of artificial intelligence and robotics and their impact on law.

Programma

During the course, the following topics will be covered:
Introduction to "biolaw" - Regulation of science and protection of individuals - National, supranational and international (bio)law; the role of case law - The system of rights in the constitutional order - Personal freedom and the right to health - The principle of self-determination - Patient self-determination and refusal of treatment in conscious and unconscious patients. Law No. 219/2017 on informed consent and advance treatment provisions. The new regulatory framework on "end-of-life" - Health data - Scientific research - Vaccinations - The evolution of genetics and its impact on criminal law - Biobanks - Abortion - Human reproduction and law: medically assisted procreation and surrogacy - Neuroscience. Advanced technologies and intelligence augmentation - Artificial intelligence and law - Autonomous systems, intelligent robot and human autonomy
