The course provides specific knowledge and a comparative approach on all issues related to democratization processes, with a particular focus on the most recent ones of the so-called ‘’third wave’’. It also provides students with the knowledge related to the conditions that facilitate and allow the democratization of institutions and have determined differences in their outcomes.

Programma
The course is divided into two parts. The first provides a theorical framework of the transition process and analyzes the conceptual debate about democratic foundation and the challenges of democratic consolidation. The second part moves from the theory to practice and explores the specific democratization trajectories in Southern and Eastern Europe during the Second and the Third Wave emphasizing the legacies of the former non democratic regimes.Testi Adottati
