The course aims to provide a synthetic yet complete view of the economic growth and development.
In particular, the course aims to provide students with an overview of the facts to be explained, providing them with the tools with which to set up the analysis to enable them to construct their own independent and critical point of view.
Starting from the analysis of production factor accumulation as an interpretative key to explain growth (i.ee physical capital, population and economic growth, future trends in demographic development and human capital), the student is subsequently exposed to the study of productivity (and in particular, to problems related to its measure), technology and the concept of technological frontier. Subsequently, the analysis framework is extended through the study of efficiency and economic growth in an open economy. Finally, it is completed by providing the student with an overview of the fundamentals of development by examining the role that state, income inequality, cultural context, geography, climate and natural resources play in explaining economic development.

Programma
The course aims to provide the basic economic tools to analyze and understand the main determinants of the development of a given area or country. The development problem is dealt with both from a developing country perspective as well as considering the least developed areas of the developed countries. The territorial component of development is analyzed through the treatment of economic models and specific cases. In addition, the course addresses the topic of sustainable development by focusing on the main issues shared at the international level.The course foresees 4 modules.

The main teaching method consists of frontal lessons aimed at acquiring the fundamental knowledge for the achievement of the training objectives. Attending students will also be able to participate in working groups aimed at producing a classroom presentation.Modalità Frequenza

For attending students: the final mark depends on the outcome of the written exam (50%) and on the activities carried out during the course, that is participation, discussion, written report and presentation (50%). The written exam consists of questions aimed at verifying the knowledge of the contents discussed during the course (Modules 1,2,3). The written report and related presentation will focus on a specific topic indicated by the teacher (Module 4). For non-attending students: the final mark depends on the outcome of a written exam.
