Jean Monnet Chair

Theories and History of European Economic Governance: Quo Vadis Europa?

“A study of the history of opinion is a necessary preliminary to the emancipation of the mind. I do not know which makes a man more conservative – to know nothing but the present, or nothing but the past”
(J.M. Keynes, “The End of Laissez-Faire”, in CWJMK, Vol. 11, Essays in Persuasion, London, MacMillan, 1972: 277)

Jean Monnet Chairs are awarded as the highest recognition of a prestigious profile in research, teaching and dissemination activities on the European Union. In 2018, only 47 chairs were awarded in the whole world, from Canada to Macao, from Japan to New Zealand. One of them was awarded to the University of Roma Tre, Department of Political Sciences, Prof. Fabio Masini.

The three years (2018-2021) activities of the Chair are meant to enhance the awareness of students, civil society organizations, local authorities and governmental policy-makers concerning the relevance, opportunities and critical elements of the European Economic Governance, from its historical roots to the current debates. They are based on both formal and non-formal education, academic seminars, dissemination initiatives.
